Active Recall: How Video Revision Works

Passive watching is one of the biggest illusions of competence in online learning. You can watch an entire two-hour video lecture and feel like you understand the subject, but forget 80% of it within 48 hours. Quietube integrates Active Recall directly into your study flow to convert short-term visual exposure into long-term retention.

The Science of Active Recall

Active recall forces your brain to retrieve information from memory rather than simply recognizing it when shown. Quietube's revision engine automates this process:

  • Transcript Intelligence: Quietube extracts key propositions, formulas, definitions, and conclusions from the lecture video transcript.
  • Automated Assessment Generation: When a lecture finishes (or whenever you tap Revise Video), Quietube automatically generates a customized set of retention questions.
  • Immediate Feedback Loop: Review your answers with detailed explanations and see which timestamps in the video explain the correct reasoning.

Starting a Video Revision Session

  1. While or after watching any lecture, tap the Revision / Quiz tab beneath the player.
  2. Tap Start Quick Revision.
  3. Choose how many questions you want to tackle (e.g., 5 quick questions or 10 deep review items).
  4. Complete the practice round to earn XP points and solidify your mastery.

Revision History & Weak Area Tracking

Your revision performance is stored under your account. If you score below 70% on a specific topic, Quietube flags it in your study insights, recommending a quick re-watch of the relevant timestamped chapter before your exams.
