Silencing Notifications During Study Sessions

Research indicates that even when you don't unlock your phone, the visual or auditory ping of an incoming message creates attention fragmentation and elevates cognitive load. Quietube eliminates this distraction with automated notification muting.

How Notification Muting Works

Quietube includes a native Android notification management service coordinated directly with your study timer:

  • Automated Engagement: The instant you tap Start Quiet Session, notification suppression activates in the background.
  • Selective Suppression: Non-essential notifications from messaging platforms, shopping apps, and social networks are silenced and prevented from popping up or vibrating your device.
  • Preserving Emergency Alerts: Critical system alerts (such as incoming voice phone calls and essential alarm clocks) are respected and allowed through so you remain reachable for urgent matters.

Restoration After Session Completion

When your study timer expires or you take a scheduled break, notification suppression disengages automatically. You can review all pending notifications without having missed anything during your deep work sprint.

Enabling Notification Access

For notification muting to operate, Android requires one-time permission:

  1. Go to your phone's Settings > Apps & Notifications > Special App Access.
  2. Select Notification Access (or Device & App Notifications).
  3. Locate Quietube and toggle the switch to Allowed.

Once enabled, Quietube handles muting and unmuting completely automatically.
